The predecessor of KOSEN-AT originated from the "National KOSEN Welfare Information Education Network" organized by faculty and staff of 14 technical colleges nationwide. This is to innovate in the technical field of welfare information education in collaboration with medical welfare institutions, special needs schools, companies, etc. while sharing information with local institutions and research seeds in the welfare support field owned by each technical college. I started with that purpose.

So far, we have held AT (Assistive Technology) forums for technical cooperation in Kumamoto, Kushiro, Okinawa, Sendai, and Nagano, centered on network members. The strength of technical college cooperation is that it can utilize the interests of national organizations in this way. Furthermore, in 2014, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's National University Reform Strengthening Promotion Project was started with the aim of developing human resources for engineers who will bring about new innovations through collaboration between the three institutions of Nagaoka University of Technology, Toyohashi University of Technology, and National College of Technology. Taking this opportunity, the name was changed to "Japan-AT Forum" and the circle of technical cooperation is expanding.

In recent years, the enhancement of welfare medical care due to the aging of the population has become an issue not only in Japan but also on a global scale, and there is an urgent need to develop assistive technology (AT) engineers necessary for the development of assistive technology (AT) equipment.
Although it is a technical college and technical college that has trained specialized engineers in machinery, electrical and electronic, information, construction, etc., in the development of assistive technology (AT) equipment, not only these conventional specialties but also these are fused and combined. New technical skills (assisted technology (AT) skills) are required, and experts from different fields collaborate to conduct research and development and evaluation, which leads to the development of usable equipment.
Above all, technician education and R & D conscious of needs-oriented social implementation that can feed back to research activities while listening to the opinions of people with disabilities and supporters who are active in the field of education, welfare, and medical care. Is required.

In this way, KOSEN-AT would like to carry out activities to promote human resource development and research and development of assistive technology (AT) equipment in collaboration with various people.
We look forward to the support and cooperation of national facilities, local governments, companies, and educators who are interested in and agree with this purpose.

Philosophy / Purpose

At KOSEN-AT, we have the spirit of trying to contribute by acquiring the necessary skills toward the goal of supporting people with disabilities in conventional engineer education.
We are developing "assistant technology super engineers" with the following characteristics.

  1. Want their own specialized areas, such as the nucleus,

  2. Has a wide range of insights and culture regarding assistive technologies

  3. Users (from the perspective of the parties) can observe the site, discover issues, and conduct clinical trials.

  4. An engineer who can manufacture (develop) while collaborating with experts in different fields to solve problems.

* 1 Assistive Technology (AT) Mind: A spirit (mind) that aims to support people with disabilities, from the perspective of the person concerned, and to acquire the skills necessary to achieve that purpose.

* 2 Assistive technology super engineer: A super engineer with an assistive technology mindset.

What is a inclusive society?

“It is a society where people with disabilities, who have not always been able to participate fully in society, can actively participate and contribute. It is a society in which everyone respects and supports each other's personality and individuality. It is a participatory society where people can meet and recognize their diversity.”
